Your child will have opportunities to make up illness-related absences. Staying home when symptomatic helps keep our classroom community healthy, and make-up options are available to support your child’s continued learning.
Please note: Make-up classes (both standard and full-day options) are not offered before January. This allows children time to settle into their regular classroom routines and also allows illness-related absences to accumulate before scheduling make-ups.
1. Standard Make-Up Classes
- Held on designated Thursdays or Fridays from 9:00–11:30am, usually beginning in January
- Each session is 2.5 hours, the same length as a regular class
- These follow a 1:1 match with missed classes
2. Full-Day Make-Up Option
Full days tend to feel a little bit like a special event—more time, more play, more connection, and yes . . . lunch with friends.
Families may also choose a full-day make-up option beginning in January.
On these days, your child will:
- Attend both the morning (Early Kindergarten) and afternoon (Prekindergarten) sessions
- Stay for lunch and experience a full day of school
A full-day make-up provides 3.5 hours of make-up time, which is more than a single class session.
Because of this, full-day make-ups do not follow a 1:1 match with missed classes. Instead, make-up time is calculated by total hours.
Please note: Full-day make-ups are offered only when enrollment allows. If either class is at full capacity, we are unable to offer full-day make-ups, as doing so would exceed our licensed enrollment limits.
🍎 Lunch Guidelines
Children staying for a full day should bring a lunch that follows our nutrition policy:
- Food should be ready-to-eat and not require heating or preparation
- Use ice packs for cold foods or thermoses for warm foods
- Please cut foods that may pose a choking hazard (such as grapes or cherry tomatoes) into bite-sized pieces
- Water will be provided for your child
- If we have any children with allergies staying for lunch, we’ll let you know what foods need to be off your menu
Lunch is also an important part of our full-day program. During this time, children practice fine motor skills and independence as they manage their meals and cleanup. Eating alongside their teachers creates a family-style experience that supports language development, social interaction, and positive mealtime routines.
It’s a relaxed and meaningful part of the school day—and a favorite for many children.
How Full-Day Make-Ups Are Calculated
- One missed class = 2.5 hours
- One full-day make-up = 3.5 hours
Because full days provide additional time, any extra hours may be “banked” and applied toward future illness-related absences within the same school year.
Full-day make-ups are scheduled in whole days.
Full-Day Make-Up Guide
Use this chart to determine how many full-day make-ups your child is eligible for based on the number of classes missed:
| Missed Classes | Hours Missed | Full Days Eligible | Hours Provided | Extra Time Banked |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 2.5 hrs | 1 full day | 3.5 hrs | +1.0 hr |
| 2 | 5.0 hrs | 2 full days | 7.0 hrs | +2.0 hrs |
| 3 | 7.5 hrs | 3 full days | 10.5 hrs | +3.0 hrs |
| 4 | 10.0 hrs | 3 full days | 10.5 hrs | +0.5 hr |
| 5 | 12.5 hrs | 4 full days | 14.0 hrs | +1.5 hrs |
| 6 | 15.0 hrs | 5 full days | 17.5 hrs | +2.5 hrs |
A Few Important Notes
- Make-up classes apply only to illness-related absences
- Make-ups are offered as a courtesy and are not guaranteed
- Full-day make-ups are contingent upon available space and licensing limits
- No refunds or credits are issued for missed classes
- Banked time must be used within the same school year
